Clarke Awards

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!  Whooooopeeeeeee and wheeeeeeeeeeeeee and yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy and wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and

other deeply literary sentiments.

Um.

Yes.

So Harry August has been shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and it’s an AMAZING shortlist and I am totally thrilled.  I found out via a friend, who emailed on the morning in question with the word ‘yay’ and a P.S. that also said ‘yay’ and no explanation.  I thought he was talking about something else and may have… well… shouted a bit, because you mustn’t ever say yay about a thing which isn’t guaranteed.  But no, it turned out it was about the Clarkes and he knew before me and it was kinda wonderful and I checked twitter and it was kinda totally brilliant and basically….

… there was whooping.  Because it’s the Arthur C. Clarke Award which is pretty damn awesome and also, largely courtesy of the Kitschies, it was the first time in a very long while that I’d already read the books on the shortlist and they’re FANTASTIC.  They’re just a wonderful series of books.  The judges have rocked that universe.  And I’m actually properly cheering for all of the books on the list.  AND!  I once went to a Clarke Award, years ago, when Richard Morgan won (for another brilliant book), and there was free ice cream.  So I figure… whatever happens, I’m excited.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
