I've never been to Canada, but I have an overwhelming desire to go, having a love of mountain biking, and Canada has some of the world's best, I've read all of Kathy Reichs 'Tempé Brennan' books, which are set frequently in Montréal, and a lot of my favourite music comes from Canada and particularly Toronto and Montréal. Kathy's books really describe the city in detail, but your description sums it up neatly. Cheesy chips are a bit of a favourite of mine, as is Neil Gaiman, who I first discovered through his Sandman comics, then Neverwhere and Good Omens, with Terry Pratchet, both of whom have signed my copy. :0)
Neil's a lovely bloke, and I love his books. The Graveyard Book is marvellous, and I would really love to see a new adaptation of Neverwhere with good FX, as the BBC version was let down by the rather shonky creatures.
Your tale of entering the US has sadly reinforced my reluctance to ever go back while visitors are treated so badly, so any trip to Canada will have to go direct. One day. Perhaps. Maybe.

You were at the Montreal jazz festival? You have no idea of my levels of envy!

Also, notice how the Nazi party question is put very close to date of birth; I swear one time, when I have very little planned over the next couple of days, I'm going to try it...
