Urban Magic 3

Posted on Sunday, September 20th, 2009 in: Writing

So, I haven’t even really got going in talking about Urban Magic 2 – the Midnight Mayor – but feel that, since this is my blog and it is related to all things Urban Magicy, I would share the happy and joyous news that the contract to write Urban Magic 3, is currently sitting on the end of my bed!  I’m not entirely sure what the publication date would be – my publisher may or may not be thrilled to know that the writing is already well underway and they’ll probably receive the manuscript in the next few months… – but it’s there, it’s happening and, barring disaster, will hopefully, some day, somehow, be on a bookshelf near you!

However, despite the desire to say lots about it, I won’t yet, since as established, I ought to really say more about the Midnight Mayor.  Did you, for example, know that the thing that causes most problems in the London sewer system is not so much sewage in the traditional sense, but congealed cooking fat?  Imagine what could go wrong for your average sorcerer when the underground world of London decides to take a wander on the streets above…?

Has the release date for Midnight changed? Just been on Amazon and its saying Midnight in paperback won’t be released until March of next year around the same time as the American hardback.

This is where I find myself in the unique position of being able to say congratulations to my new favouritest author on receiving the contract for the third, already part-written book in an on-going series, while I’m waiting to receive my copy of the second! Well done, Kate, that’s marvellous news.
And in answer to the very last para, all I can say is eeeewwww!

I have a sneaky suspicion that the Midnight Mayor release date has been changed to earlish next year. I was hoping it hadn’t been, but there are publishing mysteries at work here that I don’t fully comprehend…

Is that for the US edition? I checked my Amazon UK order five minutes ago an it’s saying dispatch date Oct 2, delivery Oct 5. Which of course, is totally at the whim of Royal Mail, although I don’t seem to have been too badly affected here in the West of England.

Well, I received an email yesterday from Amazon informing me that delivery had been put back to March 2010. Whoopee-do! Sorry, Kate, you must feel more than a little miffed at this setback. Publishers, eh? Can’t live with ‘em, can’t shoot ‘em. Now at least I don’t have to worry about buying a softback then a hardback later from the States, I can go straight for the hardback. Still, it gives me time to catch up with all your other books; three down, four more to go.

Kate, you may or may not come back this far to check on further contributions, but I can’t think where to post up this info, that The Midnight Mayor has been featured in Wired Magazine this month, on page 59.
